The Following are the calculations to figure M-weights (weight per thousand sheets) on different products. We find it beneficial to the distributor to approximate the weight for an order.
For Plain Chipboard, Pasted and Clay-coated: Length x Width ÷ 144 x (Factor) = M Weight Example for 30 x 48 .025 Chip 30 x 48 ÷ 144 x 85 = 850M
Below is the caliper with the corresponding factor to calculate an M-weight.
For Utility Chipboard, Wallboard, Creamface, 620 News etc: Length X Width X 375 ÷ 1000 = M-Weight. Example: 40 x 48 X 375 ÷ 1000 = 720# per thousand sheets
For Kraft, Newsprint, Butcher, Bleach, Deli, Meat Wrap and Tissue in Sheets: Length X Width X Basis Weight ÷ 432 = Weight per 1,000 Sheets Example: 36 x 48 x 50 (BS. 50) ÷ 432 = 200# per 1,000 Sheets
For Kraft, Butcher, Bleach, Deli and News in Rolls: Length x 12 X Basis Weight ÷ 432 x Lineal Feet = Weight per roll Example for 36” BS 40 Natural Kraft 1275’ 36” x 12 x 40 (BS. 40) ÷ 432 x 1275= 51# per roll.
TIP: If 100% recycled kraft is marked standard lineal footage and is 9” in diameter or less it would be doubtful if the roll contained the correct lineal footage. 100% Recycled Kraft is a thicker sheet of paper than virgin paper.
